One UP, One Run: Highlights from the 2025 UPAA Freedom Run

The 2025 Freedom Run was a proud moment for the UP alumni community. Thousands of runners gathered at UP Diliman on June 29 to show what it means to move with purpose and unity.

Organized by the UP Alumni Association (UPAA), the event brought together students, faculty, alumni, and supporters to celebrate wellness, connection, and community spirit. Whether running 3K, 5K, or 10K, everyone was part of something bigger: One UP in motion.

A Rainy Morning, But No One Backed Down

The day started early with check-ins, stretches, and shared excitement. When the rain came, runners didn’t hesitate, they kept going.

The different routes became a collective challenge, met with grit and good humor. Kara David and Faculty Regent Sol Gadong were among those who joined, running side by side with the crowd to support the cause: Takbo Para Sa Malayang Pagkakaisa.

High Spirits After the Sprint

After the race, the community gathered for a short program to celebrate. Despite the wet clothes and tired legs, the energy stayed high.

A Zumba session helped everyone cool down and reconnect. The awarding of top finishers followed, recognizing the dedication of runners who gave it their all. The UP Pep Squad joined the crowd, bringing an extra boost of energy to cap off the morning.

A Community Beyond Campus

Though led by the UP Alumni Association, the Freedom Run welcomed friends, guests, and local runners who ran for freedom and fun. Whether you’re a graduate or not, if you share the values of service, health, and unity - you’re part of One UP. That sense of inclusion was felt in every stride.

The event reminded us that the University of the Philippines alumni community goes far beyond diplomas. It’s about showing up, giving back, and moving forward - together.

Carry It Forward with UPAA

If you haven’t yet, consider joining the UP Alumni Association Main. UPAA membership helps keep you connected and supports events, scholarships, and outreach programs.

Whether you graduated recently or years ago, your involvement keeps the University of the Philippines alumni network moving forward. The Freedom Run may be over for this year, but the momentum is just beginning. Let’s carry it forward, together, as One UP.
